BRC Imagination Arts asked me to design and produce a book to tell the story of their involvement with the USA Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai, China. BRC focused on the theme of, “extending a hand of friendship” to produce three media experiences and an exhibit space. The book walks readers through each space using photography, media stills and production graphics from the shows. Working closely with the printer from start to finish, we were able to utilize several techniques to enhance the communication of BRC’s story. Using a series of velum tip-ins using opaque white ink with four colors, we enhanced quotes, allowed readers to look under the roof of the building, and integrated art from the main show. We also tied the book to the poster artwork by featuring the “Better City, Better Life” buildings on a two-color split-fountain continuous tone gradient on the end sheet.
