Just weeks after the close of Expo 2010 Shanghai, China, BRC Imagination Arts hired me to design and produce a book to showcase the extensive portfolio of work produced for the Information and Communications Pavilion. The clients, China Mobile and China Telecom, wanted the pavilion to communicate optimistic dreams of a more connected world. BRC worked closely with the client to create and produce a story that reflected the myths, culture, and dreams of the Chinese people. The book takes readers through the pavilion starting with the queue, two theater experiences and ending with interactive exhibits. Sifting through hundreds of photos and graphic production files, I edited the pieces to generate a book map to get the project started. Based on the hexagon tiles on the building, I designed a graphic theme to tie all the layouts together and showcase the photography.

From the beginning, I worked with the printer to fully utilize printing and bindery techniques to ensure a quality project within our budget range. I attended to every production detail from picking FSC certified recycled content paper to color-correcting photos and press checks. BRC’s COO Scott Ault had final approval, with day to day approvals from Christian Lachel and Arlet Shirvanian. The 80 page hard-cover smyth-sewn book features three FSC paper stocks, including a velum tip-in, and a blind-debossed treatment spanning the front and back cover.
